It’s easy to reach Maine — and explore Maine — via bus. The state’s extensive bus network includes national inter-city lines as well as a wide variety of city and regional bus lines providing local and inter-city service. Many recreational areas are served by free shuttle bus and trolley services. And four"Explorer" buses operate in the key transportation areas of Portland, Freeport, Bethel and Mt. Desert Island/Acadia National Park to serve visitors.

Buses, shuttles and carpooling services also provide commuters with numerous options to help them reduce their reliance on personal vehicles. All in all, bus travel in Maine is a reliable and convenient way to go.

• Intercity Buses

Intercity buses provide important local, national and international transportation links throughout the state of Maine.


• Fixed Route Buses

These transit systems offer regulary scheduled bus service throughout Maine. The most frequent and extensive service can be found in the state's larger cities.


• Demand Response Buses

Located throughout the state, Demand Response providers offer “door-to-door” services with advance reservations


• Charter Buses
  These providers offer tours and chartered excursions to locations within and outside of Maine, including Canada and other parts of the United States.

Park & Ride. MDOT and the Maine Turnpike Authority maintain Park and Ride parking lots where travelers leave their vehicles, and where commuters can connect with car and vanpools.
