Brunswick to Ellsworth
Distance: 180 miles
The River Route connects Midcoast Maine to Downeast Maine via an 180-mile itinerary that offers gorgeous views of Maine’s interior, including the Androscoggin, Kennebec and Penobscot River Valleys. Be sure to leave plenty of time for exploration because there are numerous museums, historical sites, hiking trails and other interesting sites along the way. The route takes you through Lewiston, where Railroad Park offers fine views of the Androscoggin River; through historic downtown Hallowell on the Kennebec; and through Maine’s capital city, Augusta, which has many attractions of historic interest. In Waterville, the Colby College art museum is a must-see for art lovers and in Bangor, there are many attractions, including the Paul Bunyan statue, a great "photo op." The route ends in downtown Ellsworth, gateway to Downeast Maine and Acadia National Park.
