Distance: 27, 38 and 50 mile loops
Terrain: Gentle to moderate grades
This pleasant 27-mile ride takes cyclists from the Pennamaquan Wildlife Management Area in Pembroke to the ocean views of Passamaquoddy Bay in Perry. This tour provides scenic views of Boyden Lake, Pennamaquan River, forests and farmland. It’s a great tour for beginning road cyclists because of low traffic, good pavement and moderate grades (although no roads have paved shoulders).
It can be extended to a 38-mile loop that adds nice views of Pennamaquan and Round Lakes. This loop can be extended slightly farther with a ride down to the Reversing Falls on Leighton Neck in Pembroke. Finally, the ride can also be extended to include a 50-mile ride through Calais (all services available) and the Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge (bald eagle nesting and migratory birds). You may also start the tour in Calais.
